I have never been one to exercise in public. I always felt intimidated going to the local health club. Anytime that I do go there are lots of people there that make me look like Arnold, but still I feel that I don’t belong.
That is when I decided that the money I had spent on gym memberships (that I hardly used) would be better spent on setting up my own home gym. This allowed me the flexibility to work out on my own schedule. I could even go to the basement and do a quick 15-minute workout while dinner was cooking. As the father of three children under the age of six, 15 minutes is often all I have!
One of the unexpected benefits of working out at home was the positive influence I had become for my children. They would actually turn off Dora the Explorer and come down to the basement with me while I worked out. As I ran on the treadmill they would run and jump and dance to the music I was playing.
Taking time to exercise does not mean that you need to spend less time with your kids. Use it as an opportunity to engage them in some physical activity as well.
